Taken from the Staten Island Ferry

Times Square, last night in the city

Day 5 NYC

We rode the city tour bus again today. This bus was fully enclosed and much warmer. We hopped off the bus and boarded the Staten Island Ferry, which took us around the Statue of Liberty. We hit some shops, bought souvenirs, and took a lot of night time photos. We will be flying to Omaha tomorrow. We will begin setting up for the Bridal Show on Sunday at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs. We are sad to be leaving NYC, but look forward to getting home.

NYC Day 4

We rode a double decker bus with an open top in windy 15 degree weather. We froze as we toured downtown through Greenwich, SOHO, Wall Street, Ground Zero, China Town, Brooklyn Bridge, United Nations Building, along with several shopping districts.
The highlight of day 4 was of course the Wicked musical. Jessa will share her thoughts and feeling about Wicked.
Jessa has no comments about Wicked because it was too amazing to describe.
Thank you Jessa...

NYC Day 3

New Year's Eve
We entered our stockade at 2pm for the midnight ball drop in Times Square. While waiting in the freezing cold weather, Obama passed within five feet of us. So did Taylor Swift, Lionel Ritchie, Carson Daily, and the Jonas Brothers. Later in the day, people passed out free pepsi scarves, ugly blue nivea hats that everyone wore, and balloons for people to wave. Jeff got interviewed by an ABC newscaster, and thanks to our huge red Nebraska banner, our picture was taken several times. There were a lot of police officers, most of which were very friendly. They took pictures for people locked in their stockades and retrieved beach balls, balloons, and other items.
This years' ball was new and cost over $5 million. Lots of confetti and balloon dropped after Clinton pressed the button. Getting back to the hotel afterwards was a challenge. The streets were buried in trash and confetti. We saw a group of mounted police and saw the fireworks in Central Park. Everyone trying to go in a different direction.
Happy New Year!

NYC Day 2

This morning we walked through Central Park. We saw several horse drawn carriages, skateboarders pulled by dogs, bicyclists, and joggers. We exited the park near the Museum of Natural History. The line to get in was waaay around the back side, so it took awhile to get in. The inside wasn't anything like the movie Night Museum. This museum is huge!
After the museum we hit several suvenir shops. We also stopped at Charmin's Gotta Go. This isn't an ordinary public restroom, it was entertaining and FREE!
We then went to our first broadway show - 13 - which has all child actors. Jessa got her pic taken with Grahm Phillips from Evan All Mighty, along with a couple others. She also collected some autographs. We will be seeing Wicked on the first.

Day 1 in NYC

Our plane landed in Newark at 10:57. After collecting our luggage we rode Super Shuttle packed in like sardines with many other people to our hotel, Sheriton Towers. It was quite a unique experience and our first with New York driving, with bumper to bumper drivers.
After checking into our hotel, we hit the streets for some sight seeing. Our first stop was the theatre district. We will see Wicked on January 1st at the Gershwin. We then went to Rockefeller Center and saw the ice skaters and long line to skate which we passed by. We went to FAO Schwartz. Neither Jessa nor Tyler wanted to play on the giant floor piano because there were no other big kids on it - only little kids. Outside FAO Schwartz is the Apple Store, which is large glass cube. It is really cool. When you walk in, you can choose either the spiral glass staircase or the glass elevator to take you down to the store.
We ate dinner at Applebees for only $96. After dinner, walked past Central Park and back to Times Square to see all the advertisements lit up.
Our final stop was the Empire State Building. Our least favorite part of that was the long lines, but seeing the city night lights from the top was priceless. $165.
On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at Macy's for Jessa to buy a scarf. We also went up to the 8th floor to see the toys.
We covered a lot of ground and walked a lot of miles. We saw a lot of street vendors, pretzels by day/lamb sticks at night, hot dogs, newspapers/magazines, 2009 hats/glasses, and late at night many sheet vendors selling purses and bags from a bed sheet thrown out on the sidewalk. I guess that makes it easy to pack up and leave quickly.
Back in our hotel, we were happy to get our shoes off. Wednesday, we are thinking maybe a bus tour to other sites for less walking.
